On Thursday, May 11, Whitman-Walker Health Legal Services honored Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton at a reception at Hamilton Live, naming it the Pro Bono Law Firm of the Year for its work promoting the rights of transgender women to access health care. This honor is due in large part to the hard work of David Smith, Chris Gattuso, Katie Oliver and others on behalf of our client, a transgender woman who was denied health care due to her transgender status.

Kilpatrick Townsend brought a suit on the client’s behalf alleging discrimination in violation of the Affordable Health Care Act and D.C. Human Rights Act. David Smith worked tirelessly on her behalf and ultimately negotiated a favorable settlement of the claims. Alex Bullock, Chris Gattuso, and Katie Oliver just filed another similar matter this week, meaning this important work will continue!

At the reception, Whitman-Walker played a video it produced featuring members of the legal team and then presented them with the award on stage.
